The ‘Towards safer and resilient community‘ project in Seychelles enters its second phase

[6 July 2018]

News

First launched in 2017, the Towards safer and resilient community project is a joint initiative between Seychelles Red Cross Society (SRCS) and PIROI, aimed at strengthening the resilience of Seychelles’ population to natural disaster risks through the implementation of disaster risk reduction activities.

The initial phase of the project was completed in December 2017 and had positive results.

Based on the success of this first experience, SRCS and PIROI decided to renew their partnership by implementing a second phase, which began in June and has two goals:

  1. Strengthening the resilience of Seychelles’ population to natural disaster risks and the effects of climate change.
  2. Strengthening the capacity of Seychelles Red Cross to respond effectively to natural disasters

Between July and December 2018, SRCS – with technical and financial assistance from PIROI (through INTERREG funding) – will carry out the following actions:

  • Organisation of workshops to develop tools for disaster risks;
  • Design new tools for awareness-raising activities;
  • Development of a manual for facilitators;
  • Testing and validation of the National Society’s contingency plan;
  • Preparation of the warehouse for prepositioning of emergency relief supplies, etc.
