Community engagement and accountability (CEA)

Community Engagement and Accountability is about involving communities from the very beginning of programs and operations and making sure they are equal partners in the decision-making and implementation process. Thanks to this approach, humanitarian actions are more effective, fair, and sustainable while building community resilience.

Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that communities have access to reliable information through appropriate communication channels and support the implementation of feedback and complaint systems. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement aims to standardize CEA, support active participation of the communities and systematize this approach throughout the humanitarian response and in the long-term development of these communities.

The French Red Cross, through PIROI, supports National Societies in the South-West Indian Ocean area to implement and disseminate community engagement and communication tools. Such as through the recent regional training about community resilience via EVCA (Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment).

Through this Emini-learning, you will discover resources such as the Red Cross Red Crescent Guide to Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) as well as other humanitarian actors resources such as UNICEF, introducing you to this inclusive work method.
