Supply and logistic procedures in emergency operations
Logistic preparedness activities provide mechanisms to respond effectively to crises and disasters. To enable a rapid response once a disaster happened, the French Red Cross through PIROI, and its partners, operate a regional, national and local network of 11 warehouses in the South-West Indian Ocean area with 520 tons of shared equipment.
According to the impact of the disaster and the accessibility, logisticians are responsible for providing support to the emergency response teams by supplying essential goods and delivering relief items as soon as possible. This supply may come from existing contingency stocks or involve emergency purchases and imports.
Following the impacts of FREDDY and its multiple passages in Madagascar, Mozambique and Malawi, the Malagasy Red Cross and Mozambique Red Cross response operations managers are currently coordinating with logistic teams to transport the prepositioned stock to the distribution sites and/or acquire these materials through import procedures.
Through this e-Mini learning, you will be able to access two main resources: an online training on importation and customs clearance of humanitarian goods and a handbook about logisitic in relation to disaster's preparedness and response. In addition, you will find selected resources about goods importation, environmental issues of stock management as well as useful tools.
