PIROI was particularly involved during the last hurricane seasons. Cyclones IDAI in Mozambique, KENNETH in Mayotte and Comoros, then more recently BELNA in Madagascar and Mayotte and ELOISE in Madagascar and Mozambique, have shown the need to prepare in advance for disasters linked to natural hazards. The 2020-21 hurricane season in the Indian Ocean has already seen the formation of 8 systems, and PIROI's support for the preparation activities of National Societies in the area.
