As part of Mauritius Red Cross Society’s capacity building programme ‘Building safer and more resilient communities in Mauritius and Rodrigues islands’, PIROI supported the former’s ‘Cyclone’ simulation exercise in Mauritius from 21 to 23/04/16.
The three-day exercise took place in real time, and replicated the approach then impact of a cyclone on Mauritius. The goal was to allow Mauritius Red Cross to test and improve its communication, coordination and response mechanisms when faced with an emergency. These mechanisms have been developed over the course of recent months as part of contingency plan development by Mauritius Red Cross.
The event brought together Mauritius Red Cross headquarters members, as well as the directors and coordinators of National Society branches. The head of disaster management for the Red Cross Society of Seychelles also attended in order to share experiences between Indian Ocean National Societies.
