In Reunion the last week of April saw the launch of Interreg V, the European regional cooperation programme. Representatives from several of the countries who signed the programme* travel to Reunion on this occasion. It was the opportunity for PIROI to present its regional cooperation activities.

On Wednesday 27 April 2016, PIROI was present at the official launch of the Cooperation Programme. PIROI is one of three project holders selected by Reunion’s Regional Council as a practical example of implementating a cooperation programme in the Indian Ocean. PIROI’s head of delegation presented the platform’s activities to a gathering of project holders, journalists, representatives of the region’s governments, diplomats, and politicians.

On Thursday 28 April 2016, PIROI received in its premises representatives from several Indian Ocean countries who were present in Reunion for the programme launch.

Ms S. ISNARD – National Technical Manager, MFA Seychelles; Ms P. KAROTIYA – Assistant Indian Consular Officer; Mr T. ROMAIN – Director of the Regional Development and Integration Division, MFA Seychelles and Ms A. SZEGVARI-MAS – Territorial Cooperation project officer at Reunion’s Regional Council, were all able to discover PIROI’s work and its scope in the region’s countries.

The visitors had the chance to discover what equipment is deployed in the event of a natural disaster (shelter tool kits, hygiene kits, emergency shelters, water and sanitation treatment facilities, etc.), as well as the innovative techniques that PIROI tests (solar generators, use of aerial data for needs assessment, etc.). The regional representatives were also shown PIROI’s advocacy and disaster risk reduction activities with the screening of an advocacy film and a presentation of the Paré Pas Paré activities and project in Reunion.
