Activities being carried out in Mayotte

• Reception of patients in the COVID-19 screening centre of Mgombani (set up by the Prefecture of Mayotte)

• Training of Red Cross employees and volunteers on COVID-19 prevention, protection measures and food aid

• Maintaining core French Red Cross activities:
  • • Food aid: New response procedures to provide large-scale and unconditional response to fast-growing food needs. To date more than 16,000 people have already benefited from this assistance.
    • Social and medical-social facilities: integrated reception and orientation services, home nursing care, transition centres.

• Access to water: awareness raising about protection measures, behaviour to adopt in case of contamination, recognising COVID-19 symptoms, as well as free distribution of drinking water. 34 standpipes have been put into service.

• Specialised accommodation centre at Tsanararano for people infected by COVID-19 who cannot be treated at home due to their living conditions (overcrowded and/or unhealthy housing, homelessness, etc.)

• Emergency clothing assistance for Majicavo prison and accommodation centre residents

• Logistics support for the regional public health authority (providing tents) and Mayotte’s main hospital

• Quarantine centre: Pamandzi holding centre has been converted into a quarantine facility for people who arrive from overseas via ‘kwassa-kwassa’ canoe
