As part of its regional Disaster Risk Management programme, from 10 to 14 February PIROI organised technical training on logistics and procurement in emergencies.
22 logisticians and logistics officers from PIROI-member National Societies (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Reunion), as well as other NGOs such as CARE, Médecins du Monde, and Action Against Hunger received training from two of PIROI’s Logistics Coordinators (based in Reunion and Comoros).
Over the course of the week participants worked together looking at ways to improve supply chain management and procedures.
As a result of this training course, the newly-trained logistics practitioners are now capable of fully coordinating procurement processes in compliance with funding agencies’ regulations, managing transport-related issues during emergencies, and improving stock management. They are now familiar with the role of the logistics department, and are well aware of the main principles of emergency distribution and relevant reporting.
The training course was made possible thanks to financial support from the European Union and Reunion Island’s Regional Council as part of the INTERREG cooperation programme.
